As Premam completes 10 years, Vinay Forrt’s iconic “Java is simple” scene still lives rent-free in the minds of fans. His comedic timing and chemistry with Soubin Shahir added heart and humour to this cult classic

Vinay Forrt and Soubin Shahir in Premam
The Malayalam film Premam, directed by Alphonse Puthren, was released in 2015. This coming-of-age romantic drama struck a chord with the youth, making it a classic. The film became part of pop culture, with its characters, dialogues, story, and music becoming a sensation not only in Kerala but across the country. It arrived at a time when non-Malayalee audiences were just discovering the beauty of the Kerala film industry.
While George (Nivin Pauly)'s love story was at the center of the plot, many other elements in the film stood out and continue to be memorable even a decade later.
Among them is the performance by Vinay Forrt, who played an innocent teacher in the college where our lead character meets and falls in love with Malar teacher. But silently, Vinay Forrt's character, Vimal, also loses his heart to Malar. Each day, he tries to find the courage to express his undying love for Malar Miss—even as it takes a comical turn when he seeks help from fellow PT teacher Sivan (Soubin Shahir).
