On Thursday, rumours of veteran filmmaker Mrinal Sen passing away were put to rest when his family members said that he was absolutely fine and was, in fact, was 'having tea'.

News agency ANI quoted his family members saying, "News(passing away) is false, he is absolutely fine and having tea right now: Legendary filmmaker Mrinal Sen's family."

Some media reports stated Mrinal Sen had passed away and Twitterati, including author Amitav Ghosh, started pouring condolences on the micro-blogging website.
Born on May 14 in 1923, in Faridpur (now in Bangladesh), Sen, a Padma Bhushan and Dada Saheb Phalke awardee, paved the way for parallel cinema in the country with gems like "Ek Din Achanak", "Padatik" and "Mrigayaa".
A recipient of 12 international film awards, Sen was a member of the Indian People's Theatre Association and was instrumental in drawing youth to theatre.
