While the nation mourns the loss of Jayalalithaa, one of the most revered leaders, veteran actor Kamal Haasan's tweet condoling the demise of the actress-turned-politician has sparked controversy.
J Jayalalithaa, one of India's most charismatic political leaders, died in Chennai on Monday night after a bitter 74-day battle for life, ending an era in Tamil Nadu politics and plunging the state in deep grief. She was 68.
Jayalalithaa, a spinster, breathed her last at the Apollo Hospital just before midnight, over 24 hours after she suffered a cardiac arrest that derailed the halting progress she had been making on the health front.
Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Rajinikanth and several other celebrities took to Twitter to pay tribute to India's 'Iron Lady'. Kamal Haasan's tweet condoling her death, however, didn't go down too well with Jayalalithaa's supporters.
Here's what Kamal Haasan tweeted:

The tweet roughly translates to, "Deep sympathy for those who depend on Jayalalithaa."
Kamal Haasan faced the wrath of some Twitterati for his 'insensitive' tweet.
Here are some Twitter reactions:
@ikamalhaasan what's the point in being well learned if there is no decency. Shame I used to be a fan of yours.

It is said that Kamal Haasan shared a strained relation with the Jayalalithaa-led state government ever since it had opposed the release of the actor's film 'Vishwaroopam'.
