On Monday, Shruti Haasan was spotted at Mumbai airport on her way to Chennai, which goes to the polls today. The actor was keen to cast her vote in the assembly elections. Haasan, who is shooting for a web series and the Prabhas-starrer Salaar, flew down specially to exercise her franchise. “It’s super important to do so. We have plenty of complaints to make on social media and in person, but the first step to making a difference is to vote.” Dad Kamal Haasan is contesting from Coimbatore (South).

Setting an example for the people, several movie stars, including Rajinikanth and actor-politician Kamaal Haasan, voted early on Tuesday soon after the voting started at 7 a.m. Star couple Ajit Kumar and Shalini also exercised their democratic right by voting at a polling booth. Wearing masks, they reached their polling booth about 20 minutes before the start of polling to vote early and reach home while avoiding the fan crowd.

Polling in the 234 Assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu and the 30 Assembly seats in the neighbouring Puducherry began at 7 a.m. on Tuesday. Similarly, voting began for the lone Kanniyakumari Lok Sabha seat where bypoll is being held simultaneously. In Tamil Nadu, a total of 3,998 candidates are in the fray seeking the 6.26 crore 'one day Sultan's or the voter's favour. With 77 contestants, the Karur Assembly seat sees the highest number of Assembly aspirants.
