Thalapathy Vijay’s upcoming film Jana Nayagan has been at the centre of controversy due to a delay in certification by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The film was scheduled to hit theatres on January 9 but missed the release date because of an ongoing legal battle with the CBFC. While the matter is currently being heard in the Madras High Court, the makers have now moved the Supreme Court, challenging the order passed by the High Court’s division bench.

The plea in the Supreme Court was filed by KVN Productions, which is backing Vijay’s final film. Notably, the petition was filed on the same day the actor arrived in Delhi for questioning by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the Karur stampede during his TVK rally, in which 41 people lost their lives on September 27, 2025.
