Over 38 people lost their lives and several others were injured in a stampede during TVK chief Vijay’s political rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu, on Saturday evening. The victims included women and children. While several politicians and actors have reacted to the situation and even provided financial aid, Thalapathy Vijay has now moved the Madras High Court seeking suo motu cognisance.

Vijay’s political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), has approached the Madras High Court to request an independent inquiry into the stampede that broke out at the actor-politician's rally in Karur on Saturday. According to LiveLaw, the HC has allowed an urgent mention seeking suo motu cognisance into the incident. The judge has accepted the urgent motion, and the case is likely to be taken up on Monday despite the court being closed for the week due to Puja holidays.
