It does not take much for something to catch on when endorsed by a superstar. But with two superstars — Salman Khan (Sultan) and Aamir Khan (Dangal) — playing wrestlers to perfection and flaunting drool-worthy physiques and jaw-dropping dhobi pachhaad moves, actors grappling in the dirt was sure to come into vogue.
For upcoming TV show, Ghulaam, which has wrestling as one of its many elements, the makers have roped in a professional coach to train lead actor, Vikas Manaktala. Jagmal Singh, who has trained scores of Olympians including Narsingh Yadav, was also one of the coaches for Aamir during his prep for Dangal.
Vikas Manaktala learnt wrestling for new TV show, Ghulaam;
Says Jagmal, "Vikas came to me two months ago. He is a quick learner and was already fit. Since he was from north India, he had basic knowledge of wrestling and I just had to hone his skills. I taught him basic moves over a span of just 10 days."
Is it more challenging to train actors than wrestlers? "Of course, it is different, but they are ready to work hard and give it their all. Apart from me, there were two coaches for Aamir, Fatima (Sana Shaikh) and Sanya (Malhotra). I was with them initially, but had to leave for the Olympic camp training later."
