"As far as playing a mother is concerned, I'm an actor and will play any part of any age or gender if it interests me. There are no boundaries on that," she said in a statement.
The Star Plus show revolves around the life of a college-going kid, Raffe Roy Chaudhary who is also a detective. Sandhya plays Anita Roy Chaudhary, Raffe's mother.
The show will mark Sandhya's second inning on the small screen. The actress debuted on television with "Banegi Apni Baat" in 1994 and was last seen in "Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 2".
Sandhya insists that repetitive roles kept her away from TV.
"It's been a long time since I did TV not because I don't favour the medium but I didn't want to keep repeating myself in my roles. I always look for roles that differ from the last one. I look for a challenge in them," she said.
Talking about the show, she said: "'Private Investigator' interests me on many levels as an actor the role of Anita is fun to play and will challenge me at some point. Her look is interesting too and suits me. I'm excited about coming back with this show and hope I will do it justice and vice versa."
The show will go air Dec 7.
