Such is his popularity that whenever Arjit Taneja drops by on the set of Kumkum Bhagya, rumours abound that he is returning to the show. While he has yet to revisit the universe of his first television show, the actor has returned to Ekta Kapoor’s camp with the fifth instalment of Naagin. Playing Farishta, a character who can make any woman dance to his tunes, Taneja says he gave his nod to the show to try his hand at fantasy fiction. “This is such a learning experience. Everything is shot differently, and I am loving the process from scratch — be it in terms of performance or the technical aspects of shooting,” he says.

Originally developed as a cameo, Taneja says he is unsure how his character will evolve in the coming weeks. “I am taking one day at a time, and still getting to understand the part. During the narration, I was told it is a cool character along the lines of Lucifer,” he says, adding that Farishta will set the stage for a new track. Ask him about the Naagin memes, and he is unaffected by them, saying, “I believe in laughing and moving on.”
Despite dropping out of his first project Kumkum Bhagya, Taneja claims he has no regrets. “I wanted to do something new. That’s why I left the show after three years. Post that, I have done two more daily soaps, Kaleerein and Bahu Begum, which have taught me a lot. I owe a lot to Kumkum Bhagya, but I needed to get out of my comfort zone.”
