No matter how many roles he breathes life into, Amar Upadhyay continues to be synonymous with Mihir Virani, his much-loved character in Kyun Ki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. However, the actor claims he has got a new lease of life and a new fan base, thanks to his latest offering, Molkki. “Despite the onset of COVID and a dearth of job opportunities, I am fortunate to be working in a socially relevant show like Molkki.”

Upadhyay is thrilled that while his ardent fans continue to follow his work, Molkki has helped him to connect with a new section of the audience. “A lot of young children and people from all walks of life, who [probably] have not seen me in Kyunki... have started liking me, my personality, and performance,” says the actor. Another reason why he holds the show close to his heart is because of its central theme. “The show has not only made a difference in my life, but has also affected villages that practice molkki [a practice of selling the daughter]. Sajjangarh, a village in Rajasthan, decided to eradicate the molkki pratha after watching the show. That is a radical change, and I am proud to be part of it.”

The actor has a big-ticket project in the Kartik Aaryan-starrer Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2. “In Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, I am paired opposite Tabu and Kiara [Advani] plays my sister.” With the horror-comedy, Upadhyay has fulfilled his long-cherished desire of collaborating with director Anees Bazmee. “The story has no connection with Bhool Bhulaiyaa [2007]. [The second instalment] revolves around a palace. Milind Gunaji plays my father while I essay the role of a prince [residing in] the castle.”
