Mahhi Vij changed her spelling from Mahi to Mahhi, adding an extra 'H', upon a numerologist's advice.
Mahhi Vij went to Lilawati Vidya Mandir School, Delhi and then completed her further studies from the University of Delhi.
Coming from a middle-class family, without having any connections or godfather in the showbiz industry, Mahhi Vij has had her share of struggles. When she shifted to Mumbai, Mahhi was clear with her goals and told her father that she will never be a burden on him.

There were times when Mahhi did not have money to pay rent, but she did not have the courage either to tell her father. However, she used to take up small projects and would manage expenses.
Mahhi Vij bagged her first Television show in 2006. She played the female lead in the TV show Akela, a supernatural thriller that starred Sudhanshu Pandey, Sumeet Raghavan, Aashka Goradia, Pankaj Dheer, Mihir Misra, Mahhi Vij, Nandita Puri, Navni Parihar and Viju Khote. After Akela, she appeared in two shows - Kaisi Laagi Lagan and Shubh Kadam. However, Laagi Tujhse Lagan's Nakusha was Mahhi's breakthrough role, that gave her fame.
Well, did you know Mahhi Vij has appeared in the popular music video 'Tu, Tu Hai Wahi' by DJ Aqeel? She was just 20 when she appeared in the song.
During the shoot of Laagi Tujhse Lagan, Mahhi Vij was quoted telling mid-day in 2010, "I am in a contemplative mood, thanks to the ups and downs my character is going through onscreen. At times, I feel there are things, situations and circumstances beyond our control. Most of the time destiny doesn't ask you what you wish for or for your consent. And you are left with no choice other than to go in the direction it dictates. One needs to go with the flow of destiny. I have realised that choosing to be happy is a conscious decision. Firstly, you need to make your inner self happy. Once that happens, things fall into place. Destiny chooses what is right for you but at the same time, you must listen to your sentiments and understand what you want and why. Being balanced is very important in life. One must never forget it is nice to be important but it is more important to be nice."
On the personal front, Mahhi Vij married actor Jay Bhanushali in 2011. It was a hush-hush wedding, but the couple made it public only a year later.
Roughly after two years, there were reports about trouble in their paradise, but in early 2014, Mahhi and Jay put speculations to rest by exchanging wedding vows yet again while holidaying in Las Vegas.
Mahhi and Jay have had a court marriage in 2011. But, during one of the episodes of Nach Baliye 5, where the couple had participated, Jay promised his wife a wedding with Hindu rituals on their 25th anniversary.
Jay confessed to Mahhi and said how she meant the world to him and her presence always makes him complete. The actor further added that he didn't opt for a Hindu wedding for them because he doesn't like to sit in one place for a long time. Mahhi became highly emotional when Jay promised her that they will marry with 'saat pheras' on their 25th wedding anniversary.
In 2017, Mahhi Vij and Jay Bhanushali decided to adopt the kids of their caretaker, who had been helping Jay for more than a decade. "We always wanted to do something thoughtful and we felt that providing education and basic necessities to these little munchkins would be a blessing to us. I can't express how lucky I feel to have these kids in my life," Jay said.

In 2019, Mahhi Vij and Jay Bhanushali welcomed their first biological child - a baby girl, whom they named Tara.
While making the announcement of the new arrival, Mahhi wrote on social media, "There once was a girl and that girl met a boy. They found living as two was a life full of joy. These two happy lovebirds... this couple, this pair were snug in their nest but they thought it quite bare. They cuddled up closer, made a room in their tree and their joy overflowed when two became three."

Post-pregnancy, Mahhi, like any other woman, gained weight and became a victim of body shaming on social media. But she gave back to the trolls like a boss! There are hardly any celebrities that aren't body-shamed when they begin to gain weight and Mahhi Vij was no exception. She may not have expected people would begin to target her sudden weight-gain and stoop to such low. One user commented on her Instagram picture - Sharam Kar Moti, to which the actress replied- Was ur mother thin after delivering u like an idiot. She then posted another message in her story that read- U guys r representing ur mother... so think before writing. We loved the way she shut down the trolls!
