Amruta Khanvilkar reacts to women bodyshaming her, says criticism is okay, but people getting abusive shows their culture

Amruta Khanvilkar speaks out against bodyshaming

Actress Amruta Khanvilkar recently shared a scathing post in Marathi, calling out trolls online. The actress posted a long note on Facebook, calling out the trolls and their embarrassing comments directed at her.

In the post, after wishing everyone on the occasion of Gudi Padwa, Amruta said, “I am somebody’s daughter, sister, aunt, tai, girlfriend, wife and then I am an actress because of the field I work in.... In the name of trolling, the audience says so many dirty and shameful things that it is a shame... Why do they have no boundaries?”

Later, while speaking to Mid-day.com, the actress elaborated that the post was prompted by hateful comments, especially from Marathi women.

“See, criticism is one thing. But the whole bodyshaming, that too by our Marathi people! If it was anyone else, I probably wouldn't have reacted so much, but some Marathi women had written so badly. I mean, whether I make a saree into a dress or a blouse, that's my prerogative. And then channels also don't want to shut the comments on that kind of content because they get views. I personally call them up and ask them to shut the comments,” Amruta elaborated.

She continued, “My whole point is, criticism is okay, but log gaali dete hain, why? I am wearing a full Anarkali in that video, if the camera person is taking a top shot, that's not my fault. I am a woman, I have breasts... what should I wear or not wear? It's just weird."

She added, “I am aware that people will comment on your body, skin, costumes, and to an extent it's fine. But when women do it, it's the worst case. They are talking about culture and pointing out how I made a dress out of a saree, but their culture is to use abusive language. How is that okay? I am totally against it, I fuel up.”

Amruta was recently seen in Disney+ Hotstar’s new show, Lootere, directed by Jai Mehta. The second part of the series is also streaming now on the platform.
