A still from the series

Shriya Pilgaonkar is only days away from the release of The Broken News 2. Meanwhile, like her fans, a part of the actor is also eagerly awaiting an update on the next season of Guilty Minds. Asked whether the courtroom drama will have a second edition soon, she says, “Amazon [Prime Video] hasn’t announced the show as part of its 2024 slate. Kashaf is a character that I love and miss so much. I was asking my director the other day, ‘When can I be Kashaf again?’ The second season’s script is ready. We don’t know when we’ll go on floors. I’m hopeful it will happen in time.”

For the next few days, she is focusing on The Broken News. The newsroom drama has not only given her a meaty role, but also made her develop empathy for journalists. However, the actor is bothered by one aspect of entertainment journalism—some platforms’ lack of accountability, she claims. “Fortunately, I haven’t been part of any scandalous story, but fake news is written about actors. Earlier, apologies were given in print. Today, there are so many platforms that one can’t seek an apology [from every outlet]. So, you become thick-skinned. Thankfully, we have our own social media and can clarify things.”

Pilgaonkar admits that in today’s day and age, actors often refrain from speaking their mind out for fear of being misrepresented. “I have seen old interviews of actors where they were so candid. You can’t blame actors for being cautious right now. I am very [conscious] of the words I use because there is always that fear of being misunderstood. You don’t want your loved ones being hated or trolled unnecessarily.”
