Understand art at Santiniketan
Shukla Sawant, a visual artist and associate professor at the School of Arts and Aesthetics, JNU, will examine the relationship between landownership and landscape representation in the works of Rabindranath Tagore and artist Nandalal Bose as part of a special lecture, titled Land made productive: The Santiniketan Murals. Taking a hermeneutic view of Tagore’s writings and his relationship with the environment, Sawant’s lecture will throw light on the art works at Santiniketan, in particular, on the mural Halakarshan by Nandalal Bose.
