This Saturday, the forecourt of the iconic Liberty cinema will be studded with 17 vintage French and and classic Italian cars, a showcase that is one of the opening events for Osianama. The cultural centre, regarded as a leading online knowledge base for a variety of arts, has now made a foray into Mumbai with the introduction of two clubs — Cinefan Club and Vintage and Classic Automobiles Club.

Along with the showcase, a panel discussion, titled From Citroen to Fiat, from Delahaye to Ferrari: how and why the leadership in automotive design passed from France to Italy, will be hosted at the theatre premises. Legendary car designer Tom Tjaarda, Richard Adatto, an authority on pre-war French cars and Jean-Paul Tissot, the President of Club Delahaye will be the speakers on the panel. “The idea is to see automobiles within the cultural context and their significance in transforming our civilisation. We’ve sourced unique pieces from across India. For instance, the 1919 Citroen Type A is probably one of the world’s oldest, while Delahaye is the only one in the country,” shares Gautam Sen, President of the automotive club.
Meanwhile, the Cinefan club will aim to host premieres of Indian and World cinema and organise exhibitions on cinema greats like Orson Welles and Charlie Chaplin among others. The club opens with the premiere of Neeraj Pandey’s Baby on Friday, followed by a talk with the director and a masterclass with Anupam Kher on Sunday.
Besides these, seven other membership-driven clubs will be launched step-by-step until March 2016. “Each club will have a programming team to curate activities that will be shared with the public three months in advance. We will have the clarity on membership fees by March,” informs Neville Tuli, Chairman, Osianama.
