Information from across the country points out that rural India is increasingly entering a state of crisis. Crop failures, farmer suicides, drought and now, the recent acute water crisis in Marathwada have alarmed many concerned individuals who want to help out to make the situation better.

It is for such individuals that Wellingkar Institute of Management has organised a three-day workshop to sensitise people in ways one can contribute to rural development and also to learn from initiatives that have worked.

e will be visiting Sinnar in Nashik and learn from the farmers how they are coping with minimum resources as the area is only rain-fed. We will talk with people who run the Devnadi Valley Agricultural Producer Company and other such initiatives,” Venakatesh Nadar, who is in charge of the workshop, says.

He adds that this workshop will be a starting point for many people who want to work in rural India and is particularly designed to sensitise students to the real situation. “We will also discuss aspects of managing NGOs, working with village panchayats, and rural banks,” he adds.

From: May 20 to 22
At: Welingkar Institute of Management, Welingkar Building, Lakhamsi Nappu Road, Matunga (E).
