Board the story train

Is your child ten or younger, and loves the sight of a storybook? Ensure you bring your little one for Story Train — a storytelling event in which two books will be read and discussed. It is an initiative by Small Tales, an offshoot of Tall Tales, a storytelling series in the city where personal, non-fiction true stories are told live and workshops are conducted to train individuals in storytelling.

This two-hour programme will ensure that the children not just enjoy the books, but also internalise their lessons. According to Michael Burns, Director of Tall Tales, Story Train is designed to get kids to think about stories, to use their imaginations, and to consider what stories are trying to say on a deeper level.

He believes that this event will be about using stories to unlock their feelings about themselves and their potential as
human beings.

In this workshop, participants will read together, talk about the way the story unfolded or could’ve unfolded, brainstorm about how readers can relate to the characters, share the experiences the stories bring to mind, and do creative exercises such as writing or drawing. It’s all pointed toward offering a safe place for children to share their dreams, frustrations, and creativity and leave them more equipped to tell their own stories one day.
