Once a month, the dance floors at The Integral Space are filled with strains of Latin music and laughter. You will find couples dancing the bachata, kizomba, salsa and mambo. These social dancing parties are led by dancer Sahiba Sawhney of Dance Design. This weekend, the studio is going a step further, with Learn Social Dancing Experience (LSD). "When I started Dance Design in 2013, I wanted to make it sustainable for dancers. Dancing is not enough. You have to be a good organiser, dancer and teacher," says Sawhney, 28, who also conducts LSD classes every week.
An LSD night
The two-day event will include workshops — Shazeb Shaikh will teach isolation and stretching for Latin Afro styles; Lillian Mendes will focus on jive; Hitesh Teckchandani will showcase techniques for salsa; and Bhavin Shukla and Soonruta Kothadia will teach partner work in Dominican Bachata.
There's more. On Saturday night, there will be a social party while Sunday will witness the Open Social Dancing Championship. Winners will take home two passes to the COLADA Latin Dance Congress in Bangkok for June 2018, two months of free classes, and a cash prize.
