Natsamrat

The idea is to acknowledge regional cinema as a product of the state’s rich cultural heritage that manages to be at par with world cinema, without relying on big stars, by challenging over-used tropes in Indian cinema, and using small budgets that don’t affect quality of acting or the output. The festival will showcase a mix of hits and new releases.

The festival will see the premiere of Hala, directed by Shivaji Lotan Patil, which deals with the theme of loyalty, love and the institution of marriage that is deemed to be pious by society.

You can also catch the Mumbai premiere of National Award-winning Ringan, directed by Makarand Mane, which revolves around the harsh reality confronting the farmers and their families for several years.

There’s also the childrens’ film, Vakratunda Mahakaaya, a Film on folk culture, Katyar Kaljat Ghusali, an experimental film, Highway — Ek Selfie Aarpar, a glimpse of LGBT Marathi cinema, Daaravtha and Mitra and commercial blockbuster, Natsamrat.
