Do you know about the route that the first BEST bus took or that 20% of Mumbai is actually a national park? Introduce your six-year-old to interesting facets of the city through My Mumbai, an illustration poster-cum-place map colouring game that will be launched this Saturday at Kahani Karnival, a two-day children’s fest at Dr Bhau Daji Lad Mumbai City Museum. A product by Yellow Pinwheel Kids Project, the game is for children aged six years and above and priced at Rs 500.

Finding Mumbai
"My Mumbai includes colouring sheets of people, celebrations, transport and places. Each sheet has city trivia too and a do-it-yourself map," informs 25-year-old educator and visual artist, Abhishek Panchal, who has created the illustrations for the game. One of them includes quintessential city folks like Vada Pav seller, Dabbawala, a Koli fisherwoman, etc. "I have also illustrated Ramazan celebrations at Moha-mmed Ali Road and Lalbaugcha Raja visarjan that starts from Lalbaug Flyover," says Panchal, who visited these spots to make his sketches authentic.

Based on the game, Panchal will also conduct a session, Dekho Jaano Mumbai, at the museum. He elaborates, "This museum has the largest collection of Mumbai maps, dating back to 1700s. I will take the children for a walk-through where they have to connect these maps with modern places in the city."

What else?
The festival comprises 30 art, music, dance and storytelling sessions for children of different age groups. "The theme for Kahani Karnival is language and multiculturalism. We have an exhibition presented by Shutterflies, an initiative that teaches photography to children from low-income backgrounds," shares Shinibali Mitra Saigal, curator-partner of Kahani Karnival. A film screening of Shilpa Ranade’s Goopi Gawaiyaa Bagha Bajaiyaa and a workshop on creating one-minute short films are also part of the programme.
