Love dogs and can't get enough of them? Welcome to Dogspotting, a sport or a lifestyle, if you may, which involves spotting random dogs.
What started as a public Facebook page has now burgeoned into a community that currently has over 4,56,000 members. The 'game' is easy: spot a dog, take a photo (ensure there's no human being in the frame or else blur out their face) write a line about the dog — where it was spotted or the name/ breed, and upload it with a rating. Other members also help with the rating by adding points for important factors like soft coat, tail speed record or ears that look like baby hash browns.
A spot from China
The page features dogs out on the streets, waiting for their owners outside stores and restaurants; in baby strollers; in university classrooms; in the train; on treks; at farmer's markets...practically everywhere.
Extra marks for style
Like any game, you have to follow rules. You cannot post a picture of your own dog or a dog that you know or have met before. There's an app too, and is available across social media. You can also buy Dogspotting gear from their Shopify page.
