From slacklining between two air balloons to learning life lessons from the ocean, or battling fierce storms through the jagged granite spires of Patagonia, get ready to be captivated by nine short adventure films as the Telluride Mountain Film Festival travels to Mumbai as part of its world tour.

Held annually in May in Telluride, Colorado (US), the festival sees over hundred film submissions every year, and then travels across the world with a selection of best films. The special screening is a part of its world tour that takes place before the culmination of new edition of the festival next month.

“This is the first time that a selection of films from Telluride Mountain Film Festival has come to India,” says Divyesh Muni, vice-president, Himalayan Film Club, which will be hosting the screening at Raja Shivaji Vidyalaya in Dadar.

He adds that Telluride is one of the prestigious mountain film festivals in the world and this would be a rare opportunity for adventure filmmakers and enthusiasts to watch some of the best works from across the world.

The list of the films to be screened in the city edition includes Meru, winner of the Best Film in 2015 edition of the festival. Directed by Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin, the film captures three climbers — Conrad Anker, Jimmy Chin and Renan Ozturk — as they set out for a second attempt to summit the Meru Peak (also known as Shark’s Fin) in Garwhal region of the Himalayas in Uttarakhand. “We have got a good line-up; this is the major attraction of the festival,” adds Muni.
Also part of the screening will be The Thousand Year Journey: Oregon to Patagonia, a five-minute short film by Kenny Laubbacher as he follows his friend Jedidiah Jenkins on a bicycle ride from Oregon to the southern tip of Patagonia. Making Waves by Harri Grace captures a 17-year-old Moroccan Muslim girl and her love for surfing. In River of Eden, popular photographer and filmmaker Pete McBride follows the preservation of a far less famous river: the upper Navua in Fiji, sometimes known as the River of Eden or the tropical Grand Canyon.
