You may have seen several renditions of Lord Krishna's life in the form of dance and theatrical performances, but how often do you find one that throws chess into the mix? If this piques your interest, catch Krishna, a two-part Kathak performance, this weekend.
The show opens with a dramatic live chess game that lasts for 20 minutes; here, kathak dancers dressed as chess pieces recreate the moves of the iconic 1978 World Chess Championship between Anatoly Karpov and Viktor Korchnoi on a huge chessboard on stage.
The performance begins with a Kathak re-enactment of an iconic chess match
"This performance is followed by the retelling of Lord Krishna's life, with a narrator linking the two parts by giving examples of how the decisions made by Krishna could be likened to those made by chess players, careful and calculated," says Sampada Joglekar Kulkarni, who is one of the dancers.
Conceptualised and directed by Sonia Parchure, the performance will also feature Nakul Ghanekar, Mangesh Bhide and Kunal Rasal. The choreography is brought to life with music by composer Kaushal Inamdar.
