Long viewed as a secret society, with people 'in the know' pointing out the approximate location of the lodge, the closed-door society of Freemasons is set to open its doors for a day on June 5. The District Grand Lodge of Bombay, an apex body of Freemasons, affiliated to United Grand Lodge of England (UGLE), will give a tour of the building that is located opposite Sterling Cineplex, and hold a lecture to help the public gain a better understanding of the fraternity and its history.

Why would a super secretive cult decide to hold an open house? According to the organisers, the event will help clear misconceptions about Masonry and convey that it is not a secret society, but at best a society of secrets. The open house event will serve as a curtain-raiser to UGLE's Tercentenary Celebrations in 2017, commemorating 300 years of continual existence of Freemasonry.
Those who wish to know about Masonry and its objectives may walk in at Freemason's Hall anytime between 11 am and 5 pm on Sunday. Senior members of the masonic fraternity will offer insights into the brotherhood, and shed light on its rituals and rites of passage. They will enumerate on various social aspects Freemasonry is known for worldwide — support for charities, efforts for inclusion of the differently-abled in the society, upliftment of women through education and the many other causes they are involved with and contribute to.
On: June 5, 11 am to 5 pm
