As The Loft gallery celebrates its seventh anniversary, drop by Memoir, an exhibition that brings together nine women artists who’ve created artworks drawing from their personal experiences, where each tells an intimate tale

From minimalist hand embroidery and appliqué on calico cotton to broken pieces of tiles rearranged into a square shape and even a photograph focusing on the quiet light that spills through the windows of an ancestral home in North Italy — witness 18 interesting artworks that are part of the exhibition titled, Memoir. Starting tomorrow, the exhibits will be showcased at Lower Parel’s The Loft, as the arts space celebrates its seventh anniversary.

Anupa Mehta, owner and art curator at The Loft, elaborates, “The exhibition brings together the work of nine artists who explore the idea of a memoir. The works are intimate in terms of size, subject and treatment.

They call the viewer up close to view them. An intimate relationship gets built between the artwork and the viewer who is responding to the artist'’s viewpoint.”

When we ask Mehta about why she decided to curate a show with women artists, she reasons, “I relate to these artists’ works. I chose these works as they speak to each other and come together for the exhibition in a very sensitive way.”
