Piping hot kebabs grilled on barbeque sticks, the aroma of biryani, and the bustling hum of makeshift food counters – this used to be a typical scene at South Mumbai’s famed foodie paradise Mohammed Ali Road during the holy month of Ramzan. However, things are different this year.
As India fights a hard battle with the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic, the Maharashtra government has implemented strict lockdown-like measures since last month. Restaurants and food joints are only allowed to deliver. Hence, the usually vibrant South Mumbai neighbourhood will be missing the outdoor festivities during Eid this year.
