Giggle from home: Attend these online comedy shows over the weekend

Finding humour in the lockdown or the pandemic is not easy. But comedians can be trusted to spread a few laughs even when everyone is restless and stuck at home. Over the last year, comics have been doing their best to keep us entertained with engaging content day after day on social media. It was a healthy distraction to keep themselves — and us — sane.

Some comedians started the trend of live-streaming their daily activities, with a dash of humour of course, and had their audience in splits. During the deadly second wave too, a few of them used laughter as a means to comfort people. Comedian Amit Tandon hosted exclusive shows for Covid positive people who were staying alone, and comic Anshu Mor performed free online shows for doctors and nurses, for instance.

There is still some time before venues open up and audiences can catch their favourite comics live. But that should not keep you from attending their performances virtually. Here are a few comedy gigs to catch this weekend from your home.

Work From Home

Yes, the name of the show reflects the present mode in which most of us are operating. However, here you will only be required to enjoy from home, not work. This show is unique because it blends comedy and magic. Karan Chauhan, touted to be India’s first and only comedian/illusionist, is all set to entertain you. He is a two-time winner of Medal of Merlin for stage magic in the US, so expect a dazzling act from him. Along with hearing quips, you will get to see some sleight of hand too.

Three Comics Walk Into A Show

Before the Monday blues hit you, enjoy your Sunday by signing up for this comedy show. Here, not one but three comedians will be performing fresh and, hopefully, funny jokes. According to the event note, the comedians – Siddharth Dudeja, Saikaran and Aanchal Agarwal – will be sharing their most twisted, deranged, and hilarious stories.
When: July 4, 10 pm. Visit: www.insider.in

Employee Number 9211

All of us have been part of various hilarious situations in life. However, not everyone can narrate them with a dash of humour. If you are looking for some relatable and funny content, check out this show by up-and-coming comedian Rajat Chauhan. At this show, Chauhan will narrate humourous tales from his first day of engineering college to the last day of his corporate job.

Gainfully Employed

American comedian WC Fields had once said, “Comedy is a serious business”. It isn’t an easy one either. To come up with new and fresh jokes, it takes a lot of time and hard work. Well-known comedian Punit Pania is aware of that. He spent nearly a decade working in the corporate sector, before he decided to be a stand-up comedian. Pania’s comedy show, ‘Gainfully Employed’, features some of the best jokes about his time as a corporate employee to his current ‘job’ as a stand-up comic. This particular set has been performed in the city earlier as well, but if you missed his live performance, this is your chance to catch it again.

Women Slay Sundays

No subject is taboo in this show. From sex and heartbreak to PMS and growing old — everything will be addressed with a sense of humour at ‘Women Slay Wednesdays’. Every Sunday, you can count on a set of female comics to present you the required dose of laughter needed to start a new week. This edition’s line-up includes Kajol Srinivasan, Jeeya Sethi, Aditi Mittal, Radhika Vaz, Sumaira Shaikh and Agrima Joshua.
