What: Art gallery and project space THE LOFT is celebrating its sixth anniversary with an exhibition, titled Noir/Blanc (translates to black and white). On display will be a selection of black and white monochrome artworks, ranging from drawings to paintings and photographs.

Black and white images, often considered timeless, are quite a challenge to execute. At this exhibition, you can learn how various artists and photographers have achieved their vision. Some of the artists whose artworks will be displayed include Ajay Choudhary, Akbar Padamsee, Anju Dodiya, Atul Dodiya, Baiju Parthan, Bose Krishnamachari and FN Souza, among others.

How: Anupa Mehta, director of THE LOFT, got the idea for Noir/Blanc after seeing a show of students&rsquo; works in black and white at the Royal College of Art (RCA) in London in June this year. Speaking about the exhibition, Mehta says, &ldquo;Forty three artworks are on display.

There are small format works by the masters as well as by mid-career and young artists at very accessible prices. The show offers viewers and collectors a chance to look at a range of works in black and white to understand how different artists work with the palette.&rdquo;

Mehta admits that she likes the sophistication of the monochrome palette: &ldquo;As Akbar Padamsee said, &lsquo;Grey is without prejudice. It does not discriminate between object and space&rsquo;.&rdquo; Next up, The Loft will host a debut solo by sculptor Valay Gada in October.
