A night filled with thumping EDM is a popular choice for nightcrawlers in the city. That said, if you wish to calm your nerves after a stressful start to the week, Alt Nights featuring the Praveer Barot Projective might have the right notes in store for you.

Curated by live entertainment company Kunsla, Alt Nights are designed to present acoustic-based covers of songs from various genres, be it the blues or reggae. As for the artiste for the night, Barot has been a regular on the live music scene, and is known for his acoustic covers and originals. Gig regulars would know of Barot as a solo artiste who opened for big acts at the now-shuttered blueFROG. So, we were curious to find out more about the 36-year-old musician forming a band. "The next thing to do for a solo artiste to grow is to make your sound more dynamic, and forming a band definitely helps make your music sound full," says Barot. Ask him what got him hooked to acoustic music, and Barot shares, "It was the early ’90s. I watched the American version of MTV Unplugged for the first time ever, and it featured Nirvana doing acoustic versions of their songs. I was hooked."
For his show tonight, Barot, along with Siddhesh Sawant on the cajón, will play acoustic versions of popular English and Hindi songs, as well as a few originals.

As for his current favourites, he says, "I like listening to early Ed Sheeran melodies [he started his career as an acoustic artiste] and Coldplay albums; it’s all pop and EDM now, though."

On Tonight, 9 pm onwards
At Monkey Bar, Summerville, junction of 14th and 33 Road, Bandra West.
