Grey may seem like a muted colour, however in the tapestry of Navratri colours, it represents balanced emotions. It symbolises the destruction of evil and emphasises the importance of being grounded. Wearing grey on the Day 6 of Navratri promotes balance, peace and is auspicious for prosperity.
The colour grey is worn on Day 6 of Navratri in honor of Maa Katyayani. She is also known as the warrior goddess. She is the fierce form of Durga, created by the combined energies of the divine trinity; Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma, to defeat the demon Mahishasura. She is considered the strongest manifestation of Goddess Durga. It is said that she was born to Sage Katyayan, after an intense penance to have her as his daughter, which is also how her name is derived.
