Art straight from the heart 11 am-7 pm: Contemporary artists Ravi Bansode, Tulsiram Jadhav and Suryawanshi Gunderao will exhibit their collection of paintings called Realities of Life at Jehangir Art Gallery today. Inspired by various aspects which they think affect our lives, each artist aims at spreading awareness through their work.
Ravi Bansode is inspired by Lord Buddha and his message to society. Through the acrylic colours used on the canvas, Bansode wants to convey the message of love, compassion and equality among the people of our country.
Tulsiram Jadhav, on the other hand, demonstrates the relationship between Lord Shiva and Nandi and mindscapes of Shiva in childhood. Jadhav&rsquo;s main aim is to spread awareness about Indian culture, tradition and its relevance in today&rsquo;s times.
Suryawanshi Gunderao, inspired by the strenuous life of farmers, uses them as a subject for his sculptures made out of fibre. His work will draw comparisons between the bond of a farmer and his ox and the unconditional love between a mother and a child.

The institution of marriage 7.30 pm: If live performances thrill you, then head to Avenue 29 for a play titled Marriage-ology &mdash; The science and art of mating. The 95-minute play directed by Sunil Shanbag and Sapan Saran, explores the various shades of marriage through seven scenes. Some situations will make you laugh while the others will make you think. An intense love story 6.30 pm: Watch The Reader, a 2008 award-winning film starring Kate Winslet and David Cross. The movie opens in post-war Germany where the ill 15- year-old Michael Berg is helped by Hanna, a woman twice his age. Soon they indulge in a passionate but secretive love affair. Michael reads to Hanna from The Odyssey and Huck Finn and their bond deepens. The plot takes a turn when Hanna suddenly disappears only to return eight years later. For the photographer in you 5 pm: If you have a budding photographer at home, then this might be his/her chance to learn the technicalities of photography. The Young Photographer workshop is open to all children between seven-16 years of age and aims to improve the child&rsquo;s creative thinking and enhance their ability to observe and appreciate the beauty around them. The participants will learn to set up their camera, understand the concept of light, colour and exposure and will get expert advice on clicking creative pictures. Selfie, now an art August 11, 11 am-7 pm: Mumbai-based, new age artist Nilesh Vede is displaying his most recent series of acrylic artwork, called Selfie, at Hirji Jehangir Art Gallery in Kala Ghoda, till August 12.
Explaining the idea and thought behind his work, the artist says, &ldquo;I have a different view on what a selfie could be. It can be an artistic way of self-reflection and self observation of thoughts and actions. Selfie is more than a self portrait ... it is a path for self-realisation and a search for real identity,&rdquo; explains Vede.
The artist explains that he looks at life as a sacred voyage to reach one&rsquo;s &ldquo;true inner self&rdquo;. He further explains that his artworks at the exhibition uses earthy tones to create a tranquil world &mdash; one that he hopes to transport his viewers to.

Let the rains inspire you to take part in a poetry competition this month. Srinivas Rayaprol Literary Trust is accepting entries for the sixth Srinivas Rayaprol Poetry Prize to recognise excellence in poetry written in English. Adminstered jointly by the Department of English and University of Hyderabad, the competition is open for Indians aged between 20 and 40.
The prize consists of a cash award of R15,000 and a citation will be presented at a literary event in Hyderabad in the month of October this year. Entries must include three, unpublished poems written by the applicant along with age proof such as copy of your passport or pan card. Please do not put your name on the poems to be submitted to the jury members.
