India has seen many great music maestros, who have contributed immensely to the art of the tabla. Ustad Amir Hussain Khan (1899–1969), a tabla phenomenon of the 20th century, was one such stalwart from the Farrukhabad Gharana. The documentary, Doyen of Farrukhabad, takes a look at the musical journey of this revered artiste, who widened the horizon of the art of tabla, with his spectacular performances, magnificent compositions, new dimensions and a vast vision. It highlights his painstaking effort to enrich and propagate the art of the tabla, through a series of interviews of his relatives, disciples and performances by eminent artistes who are carrying forward his legacy and his music.
