There is no dearth of talent in Mumbai where everyone comes to struggle. Before the coronavirus pandemic hit us, open mics were organised almost every day at cultural venues, pubs, and restaurants across the city. These events gave a platform to both up-and-coming talents and experienced artists practising various forms to showcase their creativity.

Even though restrictions are slowly being lifted in the city, it is still not clear when performance venues will reopen. While we wait to attend open mics in-person again, here are some virtual ones you can participate in or sit back and enjoy from the comfort of your home this weekend.
For Comedians
Every now and then, we need that crucial dose of laughter -- more so during uncertain times like these. The great Walt Disney once said, “That’s what we storytellers do. We restore order with imagination. We instill hope again and again and again.” At this point, we need unrestricted supply of ‘hope’. Hence, be prepared to share some of your original stories with the world at this open mic. However, this event, organised by The Mental Talkies, is not just open to storytellers. It invites poets as well. So, bring out those notebooks where you scribbled your stories and verses, and get ready to enthrall the audience, virtually.

M for Music
Musicians, take note: there’s not one but two music open mics that are being hosted this weekend. You may be missing jamming with other like-minded musicians and music lovers, but Musical Open Mic and Music Unfiltered Open Mic are offering the next best thing – online spaces where you can catch new talents or demonstrate your own music skills. In the former, musicians will perform their original compositions, while in the latter, performers can also sing covers.
