Breaking the myths surrounding the music styles, violinist Sunita Bhuyan will deliver a performance-cum- talk on different kinds of musical genres and therapy ,this Friday. An HR professional for 20 years, Bhuyan, was able to gauge the need to combine the best of both worlds, especially related to enhancing skills like leadership, communication and collaboration for better results. She believes that music could help bring the necessary change. The session will be conducted in three parts.

The first part will include the significance of the seven universal notes and how every genre of music is derived from these notes. It will also focus on myths related to Classical as well as popular music and how they could be debunked. The second part will uncover music as a scientific therapy and its effect on mind and body. It will be supplemented with research, including Bhuyan's, on how it could be used for healing. The last part will include how music could be used as a platform for leadership and social change.
Stressing on why music matters in daily life, Bhuyan says, "In a life full of stress and deadlines, music is the saviour. While we are constantly chasing our dreams, trying to feel accepted, music releases us from complexities and puts us to ease." Bhuyan adds that music has multiple direct physiological effects: steady rhythms help regulated breathing, and makes us feel energetic. She asserts how Classical music, in particular, helps improve heart-rate variability and a decreased level of cholesterol. Moreover, families with a music background tend to be more harmonious and produce better social citizens, added Bhuyan.
