Dear Diana,
From the moment I met my friend’s father, I have been attracted to him. Recently, when my pal and her family dropped by our house, I got anxious as well as jealous as I could not talk to him for long. Since then, I have had many thoughts and fantasies about him. I just can’t get him out of my head. During the summer vacation, I have been invited to their country house for a few days. It will be really difficult to live with him and be around him. I want to get intimate with him. How do I make these thoughts go away? At the same time, I don’t want anything to go wrong between my friend and me, because she means a lot to me and we have been buddies for long. Her father used to work in Oman for decades and is now back in Mumbai. I find him polished and suave. What do I do? I am 19 while he is in his late 40s.

Dear Sarah,
What you term as love is infatuation. At your age, it is natural to develop such feelings. But it doesn’t mean that you are in love with him. During their growing up years, there are girls in love with screen idols and pop sensations, but you have developed a massive crush on your pal’s dad. Right now you have not expressed what’s on your mind. Imagine if your pal comes to know, you will definitely lose a friend. It will create havoc not only in your family, but also your friend’s family. Leave the man alone. He may be protective towards you and care for you, but he is definitely not in love with you. Hang out with guys around your age and this infatuation will melt away in no time. You are sure to outgrow this phase of your life. Try not to harbour such thoughts and if possible avoid the country home trip. Avoid seeing him out of sight equals out of mind.
