Dear Diana,
I’ve been grappling with depression for the past three years. Recently, I spent a few days with a couple of college friends whom I hadn’t seen for years. They had planned a reunion in Goa. My depression vanished. I now realise that my problem is the people I’m surrounded by every day — especially my girlfriend. Her constant moaning and negativity just brings me down.

Dear Suveer,
The college reunion certainly seems to have done you a world of good. This is why it is important to have buddies who have no expectations from you. Those who are always there for you even though you might not meet often. The trip has cleared your mind and you have realised that your mental state is due to the constant cribbing by those near and dear to you. Tell them how you feel by what is going on, especially your girlfriend. If you think she is too overdemanding and difficult, you need to do a serious rethink about the relationship.
Dear Diana,
I am in love with an office colleague. I liked her since the time I saw her on my first day at office. I just can’t get over her. As I barely talk to her, I don’t know whether she likes me, but I am crazy about her. How do I muster courage to talk to her?

Dear Shripad,
What is stopping you from talking to her? You are working in the same office so there are several common subjects to talk about — from your boss to the coffee and state of food served in the canteen. First, get to know her, a colleague can introduce you to her. Be her pal and hang out together. You may be attracted to her, but once you start talking to her, you will get to know her well. Find out if she has someone on the scene. You then might have a different opinion about her. If all gets well, she could be your girl.
