Dear Diana,
My girlfriend and I have been together for three years. We often spoke of a future together. Last week, it was her birthday. On her big day, I decided to surprise her with a special gift. I gave her a diamond ring and proposed to her. I thought she would be thrilled and jump with joy, but what followed was a nightmare. We were dining out and towards the end of the meal, I presented her with a box. On opening it, she gave one hard look at the ring and told me the ring appears to be a fake. I told her that I can show her the bill to prove that it was real, but she refused to accept it. I was shocked. She then went on and on about how she was worth more than a mere ring. She told me she had rejected my proposal. I was heartbroken. On our way out of the restaurant, she reprimanded me for not coming up with a novel way to propose to her. Ever since, she has been acting weird. I do not know what is going on in her head.

Dear Karthik,
Your girlfriend's behaviour is deplorable, there is no reason why you should stick around with this woman. She ridiculed you, not realising how miserable you would feel. It is the thought that matters, but your girlfriend made a mockery of your gesture. Your girlfriend appears to be a gold digger and doesn't want to commit till she is convinced about your purchasing powers. You should count yourself lucky that you did not commit to such a woman. This woman does not deserve your love, she is not at all worthy of you. Let her be. You need to move on. If you still care for her, then she needs to change her stance towards you.
