'This line is asking to be seen'

Tell us a bit about your new collection at LFW?
There is a twist. The basic philosophy behind this show was to cloth the urban woman in her various facets, her various moods. So, it covers from her feeling sexy to a point where she feels bohemian and then, moving into a timeless kind of space in her life. The signature of course will be very Priyadarshini Rao and hence the clothing isu00a0soft and fluid but it’s more luxurious than what I usually work on. It's not the don’t-look-at-me kind of works I do. It’s asking to be seen for a change. There is a surpriseu00a0element too, which will be revealed at the show. In a nutshell, it isu00a0something I have not done before. It’s a step up from the kind ofu00a0luxury prêt that I usually do.

…and the colour palette?
The collection has a vast colour palette. We are opening with black, moving into colours, which are fuschia, turquoise and aubergine. Then it moves into a mix of prints and we finish it with whites. So we have turned it and we start with unexpected colours.

According to you, what are the trends for the upcoming season?
The hemlines are moving from very high, all the way down to the floor length. The big trends are jackets with peplums, short skirts and long maxis. As far as ethnic is concerned, layers are in fashion, so women are opting for jackets over dupattas. The length will stay long for a
while. Also experimenting with necklines and collars are in. The bottom wear is much sleek.
Patialas and Salwars are out.

Many designers are diverting towards projects like writing books or designing calenders. What’s your calling?
Never say never. I have been here for 17 years now. Sooner than later, I would want to do something but currently, no.

Your take on the new crop entering the industry?
There is a lot of talent, but I feel it’s become too easy for them. There are many of them who want to show a collection in the first year of having graduated. I feel there are too many platforms and too many rich parents are putting up stores for their kids; this will not take them anywhere. The ones who do well are the ones who grow with time and experience and through hard work. So, shortcuts will not help.

What do you start your day with?
A glass of milk

Your home remedy for skin?
Apply aloe vera plant leaf gel. It’s great for the skin.

What do you do on a bad hair day?
I keep my hair tied up

A beauty regime you swear by...?
I keep my skin clean and oil-free and at the same time, hydrated and moisturised.

What do you snack in between shows or shoots?
I’m not a very healthy eater! So, anything from sandwiches to biscuits to fruits.
