Drop in at Andheri's Seven Bungalows today to participate in workshops, try organic food or buy hand painted clothes. Handmade etc, an eco-friendly bazaar is helping local entrepreneurs exhibit their products.
Bhavna Kapoor was always passionate about the environment but her busy schedule as a documentary filmmaker took up most of her time. It was only after filming her documentary Seeds of tomorrow in 2009 (based on organic farming) that she decided to stand up and do something about the environment rather than just talk about it. “The documentary helped me a lot as a person as I met a lot of families in the villages of Garhwal who practice organic farming. When I came back home, I wanted to do something on similar grounds that could help local farmers from Maharashtra.”

Handmade Etc is a local bazaar that hopes to reinvent the age-old idea of a haat (market place), where people will display their products. Kapoor elaborates, “I wanted to create a platform that could bring together local people who could share their products, mostly organic, in a fun and more ethical manner as they will directly be in contact with the buyer.”
The bazaar will feature 15-20 curated stalls which will have an eclectic mix of things such as a live salad bar for the health conscious, a workshop on organic home gardening, a stall that will sell hand painted clothes and a lot more.
In a day and age where flashy advertisements and slogans decide the success of a product, Kapoor has just set up a simple Facebook page that helps broadcast her event. “I wanted it to be simple. Some are excited and others are still a little clueless about the event. But I am prompt on Facebook and answer most of their queries.”
Ask her about her future plans and she says, “I just want this event to go well. If it does, the next year will be bigger and better.”
