The ambience is perfect for that romantic date
Small bridges join one part to another. And right below your table flows a tiny stream. Amidst such a setting is a tapas bar, replete with wood-fired ovens for those perfect pizzas. And then there is the bar area where the bartenders mix some delightful Sangria. And all this, lit up with torches and muted lighting.
If you were to judge a place based on its ambience, Sevilla, at The Claridges, would perhaps get a 10 on 10. The restaurant serves cuisine from southern coastal Europe, including those from volcanic regions of Italy and the Canarian Islands of Spain.
The restaurant is currently hosting Call of the Mediterranean, a festival that brings together fare from Canarian Island, Mediterranean sea region and south west France. The restaurant has sourced ingredients like truffles, caviar, bottarga and exotic fish and meat to prepare the delicacies from across the continent.u00a0
Working wonders
Soak in the ambience while you dig into exotic delicacies like Scottish lobster caramelle served with cherry tomato compote, Bottarga shavings and sword fish skewers, Canadian oysters and more. We decided to keep things simple, though, and ordered Canadian sea scallops. While that was in the making, we were served some delicious freshly baked bread and olives. The starters arrived quickly enough. This consisted of some very fresh Canadian diver scallops served with pancetta, cauliflower and shell fish puree with white Balsamic vinaigrette. The shell fish puree held its own amidst all the clutter and deserves special mention. Quite filling, too.
For main course, it was some well made Flattened veal fillet served with tuna sauce, white onion risotto and rocket pesto. The spicy peppery flavour of the pesto served as the perfect complement to the onion risotto which was prepared using just the perfect amount of Parmesan.
For all those watching their weight, I would recommend leave the risotto aside, and attack the veal fillet. Though a tad bit oily, the veal was cooked to perfection. The meat was good and not too chewy. For desserts, there was a lot to choose from. The menu listed Greek walnut cake soaked in lemon and brandy syrup with blood orange jelly, vanilla bean and green tea sorbet and Honeyed figs, roasted almond pistachios in Phyllo pouches with hot chocolate and coconut gelato among others.u00a0However, the Sao Thome chocolate tart with miniature mango, raspberry, vanilla gelatos and sea salted almond chocolate barks was too hard to resist. A sinful ending!
