German motorcycle marque, BMW Motorrad is all set to officially enter our shores on April 14th. Bavaria Motors in Pune will be the first dealership that would kickstart BMW Motorrad’s India-operations. The new Pune dealership will be situated in Suyog Platinum towers on Naylor road.

Our sources indicate that the brand will be setting up dealerships in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad in the coming months and will exclusively cater to prospective BMW Motorrad customers.

BMW Motorrad will be bringing in its premium motorcycles via the CBU route for now. We have been told that big bikes like the BMW S1000RR, S 1000 R, R NineT, K 1600 GTL and adventure bikes like the F800 GS and 1200 GS would be launched initially though it is unclear if BMW Motorrad will launch any bike on April 14.

BMW's entry-level sportsbike - the BMW G 310 R will not be launched anytime soon. According to our source, BMW Motorrad is still working on improving the quality and reducing the cost in a bid to make the final product competitive for the price-conscious Indian market. The G310 R is BMW’s first bike to be manufactured in India at TVS Motor's Hosur manufacturing facility as part of their partnership. For now, BMW has no plans of taking the CKD-route for its premium models though they might consider setting up a CKD plant by the year 2020 depending on the demand and feedback received. Stay tuned for more updates.
