He personally signed and worked with Celine Dion, Iron Maiden, helped catapult the dreams of Cyndi Lauper, Gloria Estefan and REO Speedwagon, and was involved in the recording careers of Tina Turner and Duran
Duran. After 30 years of working with and promoting the best in the music business, Don Grierson is in India to scout for talent that can match international standards.
Brought in to the fray by Neli Kools, once a student of Don and a music management degree holder from Los Angeles who will be launching MusicBizPro tomorrow, which they claim will be a one-stop shop of independent artists and bands, Don is ready for any challenge India has to offer. The American-based online music business consultancy service will help independent artists build their music career, and offer artist development, marketing, publishing and distribution services.
"I am here to bring an American perspective. Independent artists need to grow, learn, and we will offer consultations, trying to get them to understand how the music business works in the international arena," says the A&R representative who even helped the Beatles launch their label, Apple Records.
An admirer of music from crossover projects like Monsoon Wedding, Don is sure that the right mix of Indian and Western sensibilities can help promote Indian artists. "Sometimes, an artist with great talent, is unable to use it to the optimum. Artists need to have focus, and that's what we will help provide."
Don warns artists against falling into the trap of thinking "they have all the answers". "It's best to be willing to let those with experience offer advice," advises the music business guru.
