Indian and Swedish storytellers come together to give elders an opportunity to discover the joys of storytelling and puppetry

To popularise puppetry in India, Kathalayau00a0-- The House of Stories, has come together with Swedish story-tellers to put together a storytelling and puppetry workshop titled Kathothsava 2011 for parents and teachers.
The one-day intensive workshop will be conducted by Ola Henricsson, Geeta Ramanujam and Dr Mirellau00a0 Forsberg Ahlcrona. "The workshop will showcase the importance of puppetry in education for children. It will highlight how puppets can be used in teaching," says Dr Ahlcrona, who has done her PhD in pedagogy.

Dr Ahlcrona wishes that certain changes are made in the Indian method of teaching. "Teachers should be given more freedom in the selection of curriculum and should be allowed to use puppets as a creative mode of teaching," she says.

Ola Henricsson is a story teller from Sweden, who fell in love with India for its vibrancy. "It has been 12 years since I am into story telling in Sweden and about three years back we tied up with Kathalaya for the exchange of experience and knowledge," says Henricsson. Talking about the Sweden-India connect he adds, "India and Sweden have many similarities. For eg, people of both the countries enjoy stories told in any form no matter where they come from. It was these similarities that helped me connect with India and I joined hands with Kathalaya."

Another interesting aspect of Kathothsava 2011 is the Buratino Puppet Theatre, which is here to specially perform for the children. They are going to present a story called MiniCircus. It is a fun-filled journey that incorporates magic tricks, a clown and a lot of dolls.
