The collection
According to Mishra, Jaama in Urdu means a long garment. "It's a robe which has royal opulence. It is mostly mistaken to be a garment worn by only men." His collection Jaama, reinterprets the contemporary progressive graphics inspired by the opulent domes of the Islamic art and architecture. The translation of which results into a beautiful hand crafted/embroidered line. "The collection is dedicated to the new-age woman.
I have illustrated my ideas in the Chanderi weaves with large motifs, which is very rare, as Chanderi weaving has a lot of restrictions. We reinvented a new technique and created big motifs. It does give each outfit a grand look," explains Mishra.
His collection includes an eclectic mix of lehengas, sarees, jackets and kurtas in varied colours and patterns. The highlight of the collection, is that Mishra has made the collection light-weight and comfortable. The patterns are modern, but the outfits on the whole have a traditional look. Mishra has used safe dyes and every little embroidery on each outfit is handmade. He believes that every design created will be appreciated by the visitors.
