Roshan Ranjan didn't read in the newspapers that he had won a Rajyotsava award for singing. He is blind.

Irshad Ahmed, who runs an NGO, came rushing and told him about the award.

Ranjan has been a web-research specialist for an IT company for about four years, and he describes music as his "second profession."

Apart from music, he loves reading and is a post-graduate in English Literature. He boasts of a collection of 7,000 CDs and another 6,000 cassettes. He has participated in many regional and national television channels and also performed in popular music competitions the latest being Channel V super singer in 2006 hosted by Adnan Sami. Internationally, he performed in Bangkok, 2007 and in Jordan, 2008.

But was his visual impairment an impediment? Roshan says, "It is not difficult to master anything once you have the zeal and drive. That has always been my motto. My parents have instilled a lot of courage in me." Way to go, Roshan.
