Mumbai's school children can now take centrestage at an inter-school theatre competition called NCPA Stage Right, which will take place on February 1 and 2
NCPA Stage Right is a new initiative — an inter-school theatre competition where students from schools across Mumbai will come together to showcase their talent and compete in 20-minute one-act theatrical performances on the professional stage of the NCPA.

“It is in continuity of our initiative to work with children all around the year. With Stage Right, we thought we could take this forward. Also, as far as my knowledge goes, there aren’t too many inter-school drama competitions for kids in the city,” reasons Deepa Gahlot, Head of Programming for Theatre and Film, NCPA.
The first day will be the elimination round, when shortlisted schools will perform throughout day. The second day will witness the finals, which will have the top six plays competing in a public performance.
“Theatre helps children express what they feel, it helps bring out their creativity and even aids confidence building. It is also good for a child’s intellectual growth. Hence, an interest in theatre is helpful,” she asserts.
