Don’t understimate the power of this gun wielding samurai fighter
Furi starts off with a samurai stuck in a prison with a person in a rabbit mask asking him to make a break for it. The game is essentially a sword and gun wielding samurai fighting one boss after another. Furi reminded us about the boss monsters in Contra, where you needed to figure out the pattern and the trick to take them out. Furi works in a similar, way every boss is unique and you have to figure out the pattern or combo to take down the boss. Even in the easiest mode, the work to take down a boss is easier said than done, even once you have figured the pattern. We underestimated the game and tried to play the initial levels in the normal difficulty. Two bosses in, we switched to the easy mode. Even in the easy mode, things get tough.

Furi reminds us of Afro Samurai. Why not? The characters are designed by Takashi Okazaki (creator of Afro Samurai). Between every level, there is a nice cut-scene. While it is tempting to watch it in English, try the Japanese version with subtitles. At Rs 1,000, it isn’t a bad game and the Contra style bosses beg you to replay with the next level of difficulty. The soundtrack is great too, and you can buy it as downloadable content for just Rs 600.
