Dine under the stars for a fraction of the price than what you would spend on a meal in a five-star, inclusive of a view of the historic Gateway of India. That is provided, of course, that you don't mind standing or, worse still, mingling with 'the locals'.
"All the great cities of the world host events at tourist attractions," says Nirupam Sonu, Director, Idea Hub, the company organising the event. The plan was to create an annual event to promote tourism in the state at a time when there are a maximum number of tourists. And so, the food festival, Maha Feast was born.
The organisers participation from over 15 known and upcoming names in the food business, is supported by the Department of Tourism, the Government of Maharashtra and the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC).
Prawn Spring Rolls
Specifically targetted at the tourist or 'foreigner' keen for a slice of Indian exotica or as a cursory look at the list of participants assures even Oriental, Mexican and Lebanese cuisines, the aim is still to be inclusive, stress the organisers.
"Enjoying a meal at The Gateway is a dream for you, me and every Mumbaikar," assures Sonu, emphasising on the free entry.
Tight security
If you're concerned, and rightly so, about security, Sonu assures that "special arrangements" have been made. This includes enlisting the services of a private security agency.
"Security will be tight. The police is working very hard with us to ensure that we do not in any way inconvenience any one," he says, adding, "We will be doing our best to ensure that we do not block anything."
Getting there
Designated parking spaces have been allocated for the event, but the organisers still encourage us to use public transport to get there ufffd "As is the case anywhere in the world."
