It’s that time of the year when the city gets ready to host one of the most fun events in Mumbai's social calendar, the popular Kala Ghoda (KG) Arts Festival. Beginning tomorrow, February 2, the festival will celebrate some of the finest music, dance, literature, theatre, cinema, food, art and children’s workshops. This is the 14th edition of the festival, and one can look forward to a jamboree that promises to be more colourful, and entertaining than previous years. Here’s our pick of some of the best events to attend during this week-long celebration.

Reading>The hottest cafe in South Mumbai, the Starbucks Café, will play host to veteran actor, Tom Alter who will read from writer Shivani Tibrewala's plays.

Comedy show>Over the last few years theatre actor and director, Divya Palat has built quite a standing in the city for the comedies she produces. Palat will premiere Laugh Out Loud (LOL), a multi-format comedy show that will include two original one-act skits titled Surprise! and Till Death as well as improvised performances, which will involve the audience.

Indian Instrumental>The British Council presents musician Soumik Dutta, who has been creating quite a buzz in Britain for his exceptional sarod playing skills. The 28-year-old will cast his spell over Mumbai with his string performance.

Multi-Set Act>Percussionist Talvin Singh and his friends: Shriram Sampat, flute, Ramya Iyer on vocals and Roop Kumar Rathod — will whip up a musical storm performing a two-hour set where even guest artists will be invited to perform.

Bengali Cuisine Workshop>Ever since its launch a few months ago, Bong Bong the new-age Bengali restaurant has managed to create quite a splash in Mumbai’s foodscape. Now, the ladies behind Bong Bong — Surjopriya and Kanika — will teach food enthusiasts about the finer art of Bangla cuisine. Kanika said that the peppery, lemon crab cakes will be one of the recipes they plan to teach.

Puppet-Making Workshop>Titled Mad for Tygers, this puppet making workshop is extraordinary because it will be conducted by two children — 15-year-old Madhav Subrahmaniam and his 11-year- old brother, Prithvi. The duo will teach kids how to make tiger puppets while also educating them about the endangered species and why one must protect them.

I-SPY Workshop>Give your child a chance to play detective, and bring them to this thrilling workshop organised by the Indian Forensic Organisation. Joulyn Kenny from the Indian Forensic Organisation, said it was their first time at the Kala Ghoda Festival and they plan to create a mock crime scene for kids, help them find clues and also do a fingerprinting activity.
