Pune gets a novel frozen yogurt concept -- take as much as you want and pay only as much as you eat
When you see the pretty, strawberry-topped Cravingz hoarding from the outside, you are confident that it's an ice-cream parlour. Step in and you see a line of soft-serve machines. Then, you read self-service and your fingers tingle at the potential of drawing your own ice-cream.

A sweet smiling lady waddles up and explains that this is a yogurt parlour. Yogurt? Yes, frozen yogurt that looks like a softy when drawn and even tastes almost like ice-cream. Not only is their product new for the Indian market where yogurt is nothing beyond flavoured dahi, but they have various other novel methods as well. You draw as much as you wish, you sprinkle it with as many toppings as you wish and then, you weigh your booty. Finally, you pay according to weight -- it's 60 paisa plus taxes (which makes it almost a rupee) per gram. This means, your bill could be Rs 60 or Rs 300 within your cup.
On offer the day we visited were five flavours: chocolate, blueberry, green apple, litchi and coconut. We began with a chocolate and chose fresh fruits (mango, kiwi and watermelon) for toppings. Wallet damages were Rs 135. As we settled down and scooped up our first mouthful, we were in heaven. The creamy chocolate yogurt could have been a chocolate soft-serve. It went fantastically well with the freshness of the fruits we added.
Next, we tried the litchi (It came to approximately Rs 85). If you like fresh fruit flavours, this is a healthy option. Try a sprinkle of nuts for this one. We wanted to try a serving of another flavour, so we asked for a tasting. While the green apple one has a strong green apple flavour that transports you to the land of the vodka by the same flavour, the blueberry is a more subtle flavour with a hint of the berries and the sweetness of cream. We opted for the later (Rs 80 according to what we drew).
We also tried the coconut but that was a disaster. What we expected to taste like tender coconut, came out tasting like the coconut hair oil that we Indians love so much. Not for us.u00a0Cravingz will soon start serving smoothies as well as milk shakes (Rs 59) and we shall look forward to those. Overall, Cravingz is a lovely, healthy option that you can choose as a snack, a dessert or even as a whole meal by itself. We are already craving for more.
